“Patch and sand every hole, ridge, crack, or bump so that the surface of your walls is even and smooth. Otherwise, your fresh coat of paint will end up accentuating the dings and damage, and you won’t have that new and improved feeling when you’re finished.”

Mix it up

Toasted Almond is a great base for many color schemes.

“There is a very good reason that you are given a stirrer every time you buy a can of paint: The ingredients can separate. When you’re ready to paint, pop open your can, and then stir, stir, stir, stir, and stir some more. Put some muscle into it! Then, stir again every so often during the process of painting the room. This way, the color and consistency of the finish will look great.”

Brush and roll

Midnight Blue is used on more than just the walls.

“Now for the fun part: Painting! Have a two-inch angled brush and a sturdy roller handy. Tackle the edges first with the brush. You have more control over the brush, so it’s easier to get the clean, pretty lines you want. Then go wild with the roller. You’re going to need to fill the tray with paint, load the roller, and then cover the large areas with paint. Keep your coats even. Be sure to let the paint dry fully before reinstalling fixtures or moving furniture around, or else you could wind up with smudges.”

Mix paint and wallpaper
