Tapit Doux First Winner for Bal a Bali

CG Racing’s Tapit Doux  drew off to a 9 1/4-length victory at Indiana Grand May 18, becoming the first winner for Calumet Farm’s Bal a Bali  .

Racing five furlongs on a fast main track in a maiden claiming event, Tapit Doux was first out of the gate, sat second early, and took over heading into the lane to post a final time of :59.57. Jockey Agustin Gomez kept the 2-year-old filly to task as she won in her second start for owner/trainer Cirilo Gorostieta.

Tapit Doux was claimed for $35,000 by trainer Eduardo Caramori for owner Equinox.

Calumet Farm bred the filly in Kentucky out of the Tapit   mare Ma Billet Doux.

Bal a Bali, a son of Put It Back out of the Brazilan graded winner In My Side (by Clackson), began his racing career in his native Brazil for breeder Haras Santa Maria de Araras, and earned Horse of the Year honors there in 2014. Moved to the United States, he raced for Fox Hill Farm and Siena Farm and trainer Richard Mandella, for whom he won the 2015 American Stakes (G3T) and placed in the 2016 Frank E. Kilroe Mile (G1T). He was campaigned by Calumet in 2017 and captured both the Kilroe Mile and the Shoemaker Mile (G1T).

From 26 starts, Bal a Bali compiled a 15-1-4 record and earnings of $1,258,268. His 2021 fee was advertised at $5,000.
